Dr Edwin Bruce Farmer was President of the Insitute of Materials between 1999 and 2001, which became part of IOM3 in 2002.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Frances Perry ProfGrad IMMM passing away earlier this year.

Dr Peter Flewitt was a beloved and respected academic, whose contributions to materials science and to IOM3 will be greatly missed.

Dr Peter Hackett was a respected figure in the field of mining education and the former Principal of the Camborne School of Mines

Sir John Collyear had a key role in several major industry and research organisations and was instrumental in bringing about the merger of the Institute of Ceramics, The Institute of Metals and The Plastics and Rubber Institute to form the Institute of Materials in 1992.

Albert Tuke was recognised for his contributions to the UK coalmining industry. He was a strong supporter of the Institution of Mining Engineers, joining as a student in 1955 and becoming its President in 1993.

We are sad to announce the passing of Dr G D Spenceley MBE FIMMM.

We are saddened by the death of Professor Bucknall, a longstanding and valued member of IOM3, who was awarded the Swinburne Medal and was keenly involved in Institute journals.

David was a member of the IOM3 Executive Board, Audit Committee and Mining Technology Leadership Group as Honorary Secretary of the Mining Institute of Scotland, an Affiliated Society within IOM3 for the advancement of all perspectives of minerals and mining.

Ian Bowbrick was well liked and respected as Director of Membership & Professional Standards at IOM3. Ian's support and direction was fundamental to the professional success of many members as well as the growth of the Institute from 2012 to 2023.
