US and India agree critical minerals pact
The US and India have signed a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) to expand and diversify critical minerals supply chains.
It prioritises identifying equipment, services, policies and best practices to greater facilitate the commercial development of US and Indian critical minerals exploration, extraction, processing, refining, recycling and recovery.
At the 6th ministerial meeting of the US-India Commercial Dialogue, the US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal also praised the continued efforts to build sustainable semiconductor supply chains under an agreed semiconductor MOU.
A 'readiness assessment' to indentify near-term industry opportunities for long-term complementary semiconductor ecosystems has now been completed. The government representatives agreed to continue the collaboration.
They also praised the US-India Energy Industry Network. The trade mission in March 2024 in New Delhi brought 12 US companies to India to help grow and secure clean energy markets in India.
The views in this roundtable informed the Strategic Clean Partnership that has been agreed between the two countries, and convened in September in Washington DC.
