A UK carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) will be introduced from the start of 2027 for some energy-intensive imports.

The UK CBAM will place a carbon price on some of the most emissions intensive industrial goods that are imported, says the UK Government.

This includes the aluminium, cement, fertiliser, hydrogen and iron & steel sectors.

Products from the glass and ceramics sectors are currently not planned to be included, but the scope will be reviewed.

The decision is the outcome from a CBAM consultation that ran for 12 weeks to March 2024, with more than 340 responses from stakeholders.
