The UK Government has published its carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS) investor roadmap.

The strategy, CCUS investor roadmap: capturing carbon and a global opportunity, outlines joint government and industry commitments to the deployment of CCUS in the UK and sets out the approach to delivering 4 CCUS low carbon industrial clusters, capturing 20-30 MtCO2 per year across the economy by 2030 to help meet the UK’s 2050 net-zero target.

This investor roadmap summarises the current engagement of government and industry and outlines further opportunities to deliver on national CCUS objectives in collaboration with investors.

The UK has one of the largest potential CO₂ storage capacities in Europe (an estimated 78Gt of CO₂ storage capacity in the UK Continental Shelf), which the government says makes it an ideal environment for CCUS technology

The strategy forms part of a series of roadmaps to be published over the course of 2022 for each sector of the Prime Minister’s Ten Point Plan.
