If the answer to any of these questions is no, then come along to the Student & Early Career Committee event that aims to tell students and early career professionals all about why you should aspire to becoming chartered and how to go about it.
Following her own Road to Chartership which was recorded in her blog series, Dr Aimee Goodall will talk about the process and challenges, and becoming a Fellow.
Newly Incorporated Engineer (IEng) Dr Judith Gilpin will talk about the process and experience.
Dr Hollie Cockings CEng FIMMM shares her own professional registration journey and upgrade to IOM3 Fellow.

Dr Aimee Goodall CEng CSci FIMMM
TATA Steel
Aimee is currently the Through Chain Value Manager for Tata Steel UK. Previous work experience includes working for 4 years as a Process Technology Specialist on the galvanising line in Llanwern, South Wales.
Aimee studied for a Forensic Science undergraduate degree at De Montfort University, Leicester. During the degree she realised her interest for material science. Aimee then carried out a 3-month summer placement at the Corby, Tata Steel site. She gained a PhD in the Phase Transformation and Microstructural Modelling Group at the University of Birmingham looking at the heat treatment of high strength low alloyed steel.
In her spare time, Aimee is a keen reader, swimmer and is part of a musical show choir.
Judith Gilpin IEng MIMMM
Judith is a Project Engineer in the Fuel Spray Nozzles team in Rolls-Royce Plc (not the car manufacturer!). Her main responsibility in this role is the technical and project management of a materials technology programme focusing on nickel super-alloys and joining these materials via welding and brazing.
Judith started her career 10 years ago in Rolls-Royce as a Non-Destructive Evaluation apprentice, which included studying Materials Engineering at Sheffield Hallam University part time. After her 3-year apprenticeship she became responsible for Penetrant and Eddy Current Inspections on critical rotating aerospace components. Five years ago, she relocated and moved into her current role which has significantly increased her knowledge on numerous topics, including materials testing and additive manufacturing.
In her spare time, Judith enjoys spending time outdoors walking or gardening and is a keen reader.
Dr Hollie Cockings CEng FIMMM
Hollie is a Senior Consultant in the Materials Performance Group in Frazer-Nash Consultancy. Prior to joining Frazer-Nash, Hollie worked in various industrial-academic research roles at Swansea University for 13 years, following her PhD in Materials Engineering, finally departing as a Senior Lecturer in January 2024.
Hollie’s experience lies in mechanical performance, high temperature degradation, testing and failure analysis amongst structural metals. She has a particular interest in fatigue and fracture under extreme operating environments, such as in corrosive and combustion atmospheres for power generation and industrial processing. She was sponsored by Tata Steel and Rolls-Royce as an academic, led a research group and laboratory comprising of 9 post-graduate and post-doctoral researchers. Since joining Frazer-Nash, Hollie has managed and delivered technically on various exciting projects spanning the energy, aerospace, transportation and defence sectors.
