Open 3P packaging data standard deemed best in class
The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) has identified Open 3P as the most comprehensive packaging data standard.
WBCSD concludes that Open 3P provides the solid foundation needed to harmonise packaging data across the value chain.
The Council says that as organisations globally face increasing challenges in accessing and exchanging consistent packaging data throughout product lifecycles, Open 3P’s granular and adaptable approach is singled out for its ability to facilitate data sharing across different systems and stakeholders.
The assessment reviewed multiple data models and standards including GS1, SAP Responsible Design and Production, and Packaging Cockpit.
Going forward, the WBCSD Packaging Data Exchange members have agreed to explore using Open 3P as 'an advanced point of departure to drive the refinement and adoption of a global standard for packaging data capture and for data sharing around the circular packaging value chain.'
