The processes of acquisitioning properties in the area and tender preparation are starting. Terje Andreassen, temporary project manager for the Stad Ship Tunnel at the Norwegian Coastal Administration says a proposition is being prepared for the Norwegian Parliament.

The project is estimated to cost NOK 2.8 bln (excluding VAT), with a construction period of three to four years.

'If everything goes according to plan, the world's first full-scale ship tunnel will be completed in 2025/2026,' says Terje Andreassen.

The 1.7km tunnel will enable cargo vessels and coastal voyage fleet to sail through Stad, avoiding high waves and creating a reliable shipping route.
