The closed-loop system is reported to increase the use of moulded parts by more than 300% compared to traditional means. It is also more cost effective and energy efficient.

The research team worked with local manufacturers, Footprint Tools, home to the Henry Royce Institute’s linear forging hammer. ‘The accuracy of the linear hammer could help us create a step-change in the production of safety critical components in aerospace and related industries', says Dr Alastair Conway Head of Operations, Advanced Forming Research Centre, University of Strathclyde who maintain the hammer.

The team are working with and looking for businesses to develop the FAST-Forge process.
