Nurdle rules await European sign off
Rules for firms handling and transporting microscopic pellets could be tightened to reduce damage to the environment.

Representatives of the European Parliament and the European Council have agreed to tighten the rules.
Original legislation on 2023 had not included maritime freight, an omission which the new rules rectifies.
The new legislation means firms shipping nurdles in containers must ensure they are in good-quality packaging, and provide detailed information on their cargo in line with guidelines set by the International Maritime Organisation.
The text agreed on April 9, still needs to be formally adopted by both the Council and Aarliament. It requires companies handling more than 1,500t to obtain a certificate showing adherence to the law.
