IOM3 seeking views on disused mine and quarry tips
To inform a response to plans for a new system of regulation for disused tips in Wales, IOM3 is seeking views of members.
The Disused Mine and Quarry Tips (Wales) Bill has been referred to the Climate Change, Environment, and Infrastructure Committee for scrutiny of the general principles of the Bill.
The overarching aim of the Bill is to reduce instability and the likelihood of landslides through establishment of a new public body which will have functions in relation to the assessment, registration, monitoring and management of disused tips.
The new body, the Disused Tips Authority for Wales, will have powers to require an owner of land to carry out operations, and to carry out operations itself. Establishing the Authority aims to realise benefits such as specialised technical skills, consistency in approach, and provision of oversight and monitoring.
IOM3 will be providing evidence to inform the Committee’s scrutiny of the Bill and is seeking contributions from members. Please contact [email protected] to share your views or for more information.
