IOM3 members honoured in King’s Birthday Honours 2024

Members of IOM3 recognised for their contribution in the King’s Birthday Honours List

Each year, the King's Birthday Honours mark the extraordinary contributions and service of people across the UK.

We are extremely proud to share that this year, two members of IOM3 were chosen for their contributions in their respective fields.

Dr Adam Read MBE FIMMM received an MBE in recognition of his contributions to waste and resource management.

Dr Read says, ‘I’ve been an IOM3 Fellow for a few years now and the value to me is the networking opportunities across a very broad portfolio of sectors and industries focused on key issues and priorities like resource security, plastics, the circular economy etc. My career has always been focused on waste and resources (for almost 30 years) and given my passion for teaching, training and motivating young people to join our ever evolving sector, my involvement with a number of professional bodies like CIWM and IOM3 was not only inevitable but favourable for me as they provide the networks the pathways and the opportunities to drive forward innovation, collaboration and mentoring projects and programmes, where peer to peer support comes to the fore. These institutions are my sector or professional family and support, and will continue to be as we develop and transition to a more circular economy. I have always found that being part of a professional network beyond my employer has been key in my personal and professional development, helping to train me, connect me and position me for career opportunities and allowing me to get involved in so many beneficials projects that have culminated in my fellowship of IOM3 and other bodies and in the award of my MBE.’

Professor David S Jones MBE FREng CEng FIMMM received an MBE in recognition of his services to education and pharmacy.

Professor Jones says,’I am both shocked and delighted to receive this great honour. I have had the privilege of working at Queen’s University Belfast and, while there, making a significant impact on the education of all students. I have performed research that directly impacted human health and built positive relationships with stakeholders in Schools and Further Education Colleges across Northern Ireland.

This academic journey would not have been possible without the support of IOM3. As someone who does not hold a primary engineering degree but whose work was predominantly engineering-focused, IOM3 assisted and enabled me to become a Chartered Engineer, a qualification valued by all the companies I have worked with and those with whom I am currently working. I deeply value the support and recognition of my work by fellow professionals within the IOM3 network.’

A huge congratulations to both Professor David S Jones and Dr Adam Read for their achievement.
