IOM3 Iron and Steel Group appoints new Chair

IOM3 is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Jitendra Patel CEng FIMMM as the new Chair of the Iron and Steel Group.

With Laura Baker’s decision to step down as Chair of the Iron & Steel Group, we are delighted to announce that the Trustees have accepted the recommendation of the recruitment panel to appoint Dr Jitendra Patel CEng FIMMM as the next Chair, effective immediately. 

Jit is a passionate advocate of the steel sector and considers the next few years pivotal to start making the transition towards net-zero steelmaking and processing, as the world's total crude steel production reaches 1.9 billion tonnes. Continuing the legacy of delivering technical expertise and advice to IOM3 members and stakeholders, Jit will fulfil his role as Chair of the Iron and Steel Group. 

In his own words, 'As Chair, I plan to mobilise and grow our technical community members and to be more engaged with their needs. Together with the IOM3, holding strategy seminars, supporting technical events, and creating and signposting opportunities for networking and learning. To build and deliver activities, together with wider stakeholders, that support the current needs of our community and that of our next generation. Finally, I hope to extend our presence internationally, to further grow and develop our offerings, strengthen international networks and support diversity.

For me, the IOM3 remains the premier institute for the entire materials community in the UK and allows me a clear pathway to directly engage with my peers, keep abreast of materials related news, information and also to easily connect with related sectors. It also acts as a focal point to help formulate and provide feedback on policy and directives.'
