IOM3 Fellow to Chair Register of Ground Engineering Professionals

We are delighted to share that Jim Shields CEng CSci FIMMM has been named Chair of the UK Register of Ground Engineering Professionals (RoGEP).

The UK RoGEP was developed to assist clients in choosing professionals who have the right level of knowledge, skills and experience in ground engineering.

It provides external stakeholders, including clients and other professionals, with a means to identify individuals who are suitably qualified and competent in ground engineering, be they consultants, contractors, public bodies or academic backgrounds.

These individuals may be involved in various disciplines or on various projects that fall under the broad heading of Ground Engineering which is defined by Ground Forum as, an understanding of geological structures, materials and processes, combined with the systematic application of investigative, scientific and engineering techniques to produce practical solutions to ground related issues for the benefit of society’.

Ground engineering professionals registered with either the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, or the Geological Society of London can apply to join the UK Register of Ground Engineering Professionals. The scheme is administered by the Institution of Civil Engineers.

As Panel Chair, Jim Shields CEng CSci FIMMM, who is also Chair of the IOM3 Membership Committee, will lead a team of volunteers responsible for the election of new members, maintenance of standards and continued development of new qualification routes.
