IOM3 appoints Vice-President

The Trustees are pleased to announce the election of Dr Colleen Mann CEng FIMMM as IOM3 Vice-President, effective from 1 January 2025.

 

With a strong foundation in materials science and engineering, and extensive experience in nuclear waste management, Dr Colleen Mann CEng FIMMM brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to her new role. As Senior Consultant and Nuclear Materials Team Leader at Amentum, Colleen has collaborated with international clients to develop innovative waste management strategies. Her PhD research on the long-term behaviour of high-level nuclear waste glass, combined with postdoctoral work at the Henry Royce Institute, has equipped her with critical insights into nuclear materials science and engineering, vital for addressing challenges in radioactive waste management and disposal.

A dedicated member of the Sheffield Metallurgical and Engineering Society (SMEA), Colleen has been a driving force in the society’s growth and diversity. Her leadership, including her presidency, has empowered young professionals and cultivated a vibrant community of materials scientists and engineers, creating pathways for the next generation of industry leaders.

As a passionate advocate for sustainability, Colleen envisions IOM3 playing a pivotal role in advancing sustainable solutions to meet industry demands in the face of the global climate crisis. A committed supporter of diversity and inclusion, she works to drive innovation and strengthen partnerships with local societies, inspiring individuals from all backgrounds to contribute to a more sustainable future.

Speaking about her new role, Colleen said: 'I’m honoured to be elected Vice-President of IOM3. With my background in nuclear materials and waste management, I’m passionate about IOM3 potential to lead sustainable innovation in the materials sector. I look forward to working with the President, board, staff, and local societies to drive innovation, support our diverse membership, and help shape a sustainable future for the materials community.'
