IOM3 announces Honorary Fellowship
Journalist and writer Ed Conway was elected to Honorary Fellowship by the IOM3 Executive Board.
Ed Conway is the Economics Editor of Sky News and the author of several books. In 2023, he published Materials World – A Substantial Story of Our Past and Future, which was shortlisted for the Financial Times Business Book of the Year Award last year.
We are delighted to welcome him to the Institute as an Honorary Fellow this year, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the debate on materials, minerals and mining through this work in his book, Material World.
On his election, Ed says, 'I’m honoured and slightly intimidated to have been elected an Honorary Fellow of IOM3. I came to the world of materials and mining very much as an outsider, as I was researching my book, Material World, about how the world around us actually works. But the more time I spent talking to scientists, engineers and practitioners in that world - where simple substances are pulled from the ground and transformed into extraordinary products - the more I became filled with awe and wonder for what they do. IOM3 and its members embody the material world - an utterly fascinating set of sectors I believe more people should know about. I am excited about the many conversations we will have in future, and the many lessons I will learn and, hopefully, pass on to others.'
The formal ceremony and induction will take place on IOM3 Awards Day, 5 December, at 297 Euston Road, London, where he will be presented with a Fellowship certificate.
The 2024 IOM3 Awards and Prizes, recognising execeptional personal achievement, for published work and for contributions to the profession, will be presented on 2024 IOM3 Awards Day in December.
