Grants to Support Knowledge Exchange - Anna Dickinson-Lomas
Anna Dickinson-Lomas, 2024 Grant to Support Knowledge Exchange recipient shares her experience.
The IOM3 Grant to Support Knowledge enabled me to participate in a 4-month research placement in Professor Laura H Lewis’ Nanomagnetism Lab at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. The experience exposed me to a different research culture which will greatly benefit me in my future career. Working alongside international professors and peers has broadened my perspective on materials science, and engaging in group meetings has taught me new approaches to problem-solving and collaboration. The opportunity to share my work in this setting has greatly enhanced my communication skills and confidence in presenting to a diverse audience. The mentorship I have received from Professor Lewis has been beneficial and insightful in helping me to develop professionally as well as academically.
During my placement, I was lucky to have the opportunity to present my PhD research at the MRS Fall Meeting and Exhibit in Boston. I networked with materials scientists in both academia and industry and participated in an exchange of knowledge on novel advancements. Presenting a poster at the symposium on Critical Materials for Energy offered visibility for my research and helped me to form valuable global connections.
Many thanks to IOM3 for their contribution.
