Government seeks views on new Baccalaureate-style qualification
IOM3 members are invited to contribute their views on a new qualification framework proposed for 16-19 year-olds
The Department for Education is seeking to introduce the Advanced British Standard (ABS), a new Baccalaureate-style qualification framework for 16-19 year-olds. This will bring together technical and academic routes in a single framework, increasing the number of taught hours. It will require maths and English to be studied to age 18 whilst also increasing the number of subjects studied post age 16.
The consultation seeks views on the aims, purpose, and design of the ABS including the structure and subjects, as well as on assessments and support of students and education providers. Sections relevant for IOM3 members include questions on the programme framework, what subjects should be included, and how the programme should be delivered.
The call for evidence closes 20 March. To contribute to the IOM3 response, please email [email protected] by 28 February 2024.
