Forterra collaborates on recycled calcined clay use

Recycled brick waste will be used to produce supplementary cementitious materials.

The bricks will be crushed in Forterra’s Kings Dyke factory near Peterborough and be sent to LKAB Mineral’s plant in Flixborough, Lincolnshire, in the UK.

The reuse of brick waste reduces the need for further clinker production, and the calcined clay produced should increase concrete strength by reducing porosity.

LKAB already produces ground-granulated blast slag and Gypsol, with material production for calcined clay starting in June 2025.
