Dr Abigail Ackerman MIMMM

Abigail Ackerman completed her BSc in Physics with Planetary Science at the University of Leicester in 2014. Shen then moved the Imperial College London to complete her PhD in materials department with Prof. David Dye on the topic of Microstructure Control in Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-6Mo, sponsored by Rolls-Royce plc., and industrially supervised by Prof. David Rugg.

She continued working on thermomechanical processing of titanium alloys after her PhD. She currently works with Dr. Stella Pedrazzini and Prof. Mary Ryan, designing and building unique corrosion test equipment to replicate in service conditions in gas turbine engines and industrial boilers, and wit Prof. Baptiste Gault on hydrogen in titanium alloys. Abigail works closely with industrial partners such as Rolls-Royce plc., Alloyed and Shell to understand how fundamental mechanisms affect large scale industrial issues.

Specialist - Failure Investigation, Rolls-Royce plc

Edward has been employed with Rolls-Royce plc as a Materials Scientist in the arena of failure investigation for 35+ years, acting as the corporate specialist for the company in this field. He has been a fellow with IOM3 for several years, and a member of the Materials Failure Investigation Group.

Nigel has spent over twenty years in the aerospace industry working throughout the product life cycle from new alloy development to in-service investigations, covering conventional alloys, intermetallics and metal matrix composites.
