Earba secures planning consent for pumped storage hydro
The Earba Storage Project is a proposed Scottish pumped storage hydro scheme with an installed capacity of 1,800MW and a storage capacity of 40,000MWh, making it the largest project of its kind in the UK.

Energy storage plays a key role in enabling the integration of more renewables into the UK energy system, and the new project from Gilkes Energy could provide 22 hours of storage at full power.
The previous holder of the title of largest UK project is the Dinorwig project in Wales.
Planning consent is the first step in the project as it now moves towards design, tender and costing.
