Defra set for internal regulatory review
The regulation and regulators at the UK Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) will be reviewed.
The inherited regulatory landscape will be under scrutiny and recommendations will be provided.
The regulatory review has an environmental, social and governance focus, looking in particular at:
- Whether Defra regulators can secure private investment and protect environment.
- Customer and stakeholder experience of regulation.
- The efficiency of regulation.
It is hoped that the recommendations will boost private investment in the water sector, drive down waste, while driving up rural economic growth and strengthen economic resilience.
The review will be led by economist Dan Corry.
