Christine Blackmore CEnv CSci FIMMM to give inaugural Presidential Address

Christine Blackmore CEnv CSci FIMMM will deliver the Presidential Address at the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining, London on 20 February.

The Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IOM3) is pleased to announce that IOM3 President Christine Blackmore CEnv CSci FIMMM will give her inaugural Presidential Address in London on 20 February.

In a first, from one woman President to another, Christine took over from Kate Thornton CEng CSci FIMMM on 1 January 2025, bringing with her over 25 years of expertise in environmental consultancy, due diligence, and auditing within the international mining and metallurgical industries. Her Address will be held at the IOM3 London Headquarters, 297 Euston Road, highlighting the priorities for her term.

With a distinguished career spanning diverse and challenging environments—from Arctic conditions to desert landscapes—Christine has worked across a range of commodities, including base and precious metals and coal. She is particularly renowned for her expertise in handling, storing, and using cyanide in the gold mining industry, serving as an accredited auditor for the International Cyanide Management Institute. Now semi-retired, Christine continues to contribute to the field through independent consultancy work.

Reflecting on her appointment, Christine said:

‘It is a great honour to become President of IOM3, and it marks the high point of my career of over 30 years. My goal is to have an open-door policy throughout my Presidency, ensuring that IOM3 remains accessible, supportive, and proactive in addressing the needs of its members and of society at large. During my term, I will focus on Critical Raw Materials (CRMs) and their applications, energy security, and industrial challenges while strengthening our local societies and continuing to maintain standards and policies at the core of IOM3. By fostering inclusivity, innovation, and engagement, IOM3 will continue thriving as a leading institution in materials, minerals, and mining. I look forward to working with members and stakeholders to advance our collective goals in the years ahead.’
