Chinese media have reported completion of the digging that began May 1st 2023 in the Tarim Basin, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. This is in line with China’s pursuit to boost domestic energy supply through ultra-deep oil and gas exploration.

Wells with a depth of over 9,000m are defined as ultra-deep wells and, as well as exceeding this, the well has a 3,400m horizontal drilling distance.

The company is claiming there is no damage to the wetland natural reserve that surrounds the site, which has been performed by ‘high-temperature and high-efficiency directional technique that transmits signals from the vertical depth of 7,200m’.
