Australia's critical mineral list 2020

The Australian government has released an updated list of critical materials viewed as enablers of technology.

The information also lists some advanced critical minerals projects in the country, including mineral types, infrastructure, and funding. It highlights Australia’s strengths in mineral supply.

The Australian government describes these minerals as enablers of high-tech applications used in a variety of sectors of growing economic and strategic importance including renewable energy, automotive, aerospace, defence, telecommunications and agriculture.

The list of 24 critical minerals for 2020 consists of antimony, beryllium, bismuth, chromium, cobalt, gallium, germanium, graphite, hafnium, helium, indium, lithium, magnesium, manganese, niobium, PGMs, REEs, rhenium, scandium, tantalum, titanium, tungsten, vanadium, and zirconium.

The list from the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) in collaboration with Geoscience Australia and the Critical Minerals Facilitation Office, is an update of at 2019 list. The 2020 version can be viewed on the Australin government website.
