ArcelorMittal to supply General Motors with recycled steel
ArcelorMittal North America has entered into a supply agreement with General Motors for North American-sourced XCarb Steel.
XCarb RRP steel is made using an electric arc furnace (EAF) and contains a minimum of 70% scrap, which can go up to 90%, and does not use carbon offsets. A lower carbon dioxide intensity has been verified through an independent lifecycle analysis that includes scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
ArcelorMittal Dofasco is currently reducing carbon emissions by around 60% by moving to a direct-reduced-iron-fed EAF
Material will come from ArcelorMittal Dofasco in Ontario, Canada, with shipments due to begin in the second quarter of 2023.
