An introduction to IOM3 technical themes

IOM3 has nine technical themes, which underpin everything we do from a technical perspective and provide the basis for all activity to members and the broader communities.

As part of the new Technical Community (TC) structure launched in April 2022, IOM3 developed nine overarching technical themes, which will act as pillars across all activity. The TCs will operate across some, or all, of these themes with the intention that cross-group collaboration is encouraged. The themes are.

  • HEALTH 
  • INFRASTRUCTURE 
  • MATERIALS & MANUFACTURING 
  • EXTRACTION 
  • SKILLS 
  • SUSTAINABILITY 
  • TRANSPORT 

IOM3 has nine member volunteers who act as Strategic Advisors (SA) who are responsible for each technical theme. The SAs liaise with IOM3, other volunteers such as the TC Leadership Teams, Technical Communities Board and Trustees to ensure cross-fertilisation of ideas and activity. Each SA also looks after two or three TC groups (there are 22 in total) along with an IOM3 team member again to ensure consistency of approach and activity happens wherever possible.
