Discrete Event Simulation Modelling in Manufacturing
Add to calCrowne Plaza Royal Victoria Sheffield and online
Recently there has been an emphasis on inventory control and in this lecture Dr Ruby Hughes, Head of Simulation and Modelling
Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) from the University of Strathclyde will show how discrete event simulation modelling can be used to visualise flow in a factory.
Discrete Event Simulation (DES) has been widely used in operations research to simulate the behaviour and performance of a real-life process, facility or system. Ruby has been working in this area for over 15 years in both academic and industrial settings conducting R&D and commercial projects through close collaboration with companies from Aerospace, Construction, Defence, Automotive and Healthcare sectors. This lecture will cover the background of DES and its applications, key benefits and best practices of using DES to model manufacturing processes in factory environment, examples of DES models and its enabling technologies used in manufacturing such as Digital-twins and Virtual Reality
The lecture will be in person and online. Tea and coffee will be available from 6pm and the lecture will start at 6.15pm. We aim to finish around 7.15pm. Non-members are welcome All our lectures are simultaneously broadcast online via Zoom which you can access using the following links: Zoom webinar ID: 818 8956 0595 password - SMEA1894.
