Abstract: The lecture will give an overview of the construction industry and its contribution to the carbon emissions. It will explore solutions and technologies aiming at decarbonising the concrete industry by identifying the key materials and their role. By looking at infrastructure materials at different scales, including strength, micro-structure properties, durability and resilience, the talk will introduce the audience to a range of solutions and their readiness for the construction industry. Considering a range of low-carbon technologies for concrete infrastructures, with a particular focus on waste re-purposing, the challenges associated with scale-up and adoption by the construction industry will be explored.
