We are pleased to announce our final meeting of 2023 which will be held on 13 December and delivered by Matt Askin, Associate Director fo GGS (Scotland).
In this talk, Matt will outline the nature of the hazards posed by various mine gas hazards, and the means by which these hazards are investigated, characterised and managed. In particular, the talk will explore the unique challenges posed by mine gas hazards and the particular risk assessment framework used to ensure adequate protection is provided to both new and existing surface developments. Using Scottish case studies, we will explore examples of recent mine gas incidents and their eventual remediation.
Matt Askin is an environmental geologist with fifteen years’ experience in the monitoring and risk assessment of ground-gas hazards. He has worked in a range of roles including research, environmental regulation and consultancy. Matt is a Fellow of the Geological Society and a Chartered Scientist, and currently works as an Associate Director at GGS Scotland, a specialist ground gas consultancy.
