ANNOUNCEMENT
It is with great regret that Mining Institute of Scotland has to announce the death of Ken Mackie, who died on 26th March at the age of 82.
Ken began his working life in the technical department of Anderson Boyes of Motherwell, manufacturers of coal mining machinery. He remained with "AB", as the company was known, through a number of mergers and reorganisations until he retired as Technical Director of the then Anderson Longwall company. During his career he was involved with the development of high horsepower coal face machines and directed joint development contracts with the National Coal Board and other mining companies.
Ken was heavily involved in the MIS and was President for the 1998 -1999 session. He was also a Trustee for several years of the Mining Institute of Scotland Trust (MIST) and was awarded the MBE for services rendered to the mining industry.
Ken was a keen angler, and it was during a day's fishing that he died suddenly.
Ken’s funeral is on Friday 11th April at 1.00pm in St John's Church, Carluke then to Holytown Crematorium at 2.30pm.
