Materials in Nuclear Reactors
by Dave Stewart, Rolls-Royce plc
The primary circuit of a pressurised water nuclear power plant is a simple closed loop from the core to the heat exchanger and back to the core. It is also however, an arrangement of complex components made up from a wide variety of materials which are required to meet a range of functional requirements in a challenging environment.
This talk will cover some of the typical materials used in the primary circuit of a pressurised water nuclear power plant, along with the challenges that they must overcome. It will also cover the manufacturing routes used, how they have been introduced and the benefits that they have brought, and how they will continue to evolve to bring further cost and lead-time reduction opportunities.
Venue: University of Derby, Markeaton Street Campus. Pybus St, room MS125 .DE22 3BD
Non-members welcome, light refreshments provided from 18:45. The ~1h talk starts at approx. 19:00.
