Recent Disasters: what can be learnt?
Add to calThe University of Nottingham Engineering and Science Learning Centre Room A09,
The engineering community has faced many set backs through our industrial past. Hard won lessons are part of our industrial heritage and knowledge base. As we move towards a future with headlines such as: industry 4.0, energy transition, the internet of things, AI, etc; times of change and new frontiers will call for new solutions, but how we organise and protect ourselves and our assets, is an engineering skill we have heavily invested in terms of lives and resources. We can use this knowledge and experience to guide and help navigate our way - if we choose to do so. Martin Cox CEng FIMMM began his engineering career in 1979 as a National Coal Board Student Apprentice in the South Nottinghamshire Area working at Calverton and Gedling Collieries. He is an Experienced Chartered Engineer, with specialist focus areas of Business and Technology Development based on extensive demonstrated well engineering operational experience in the Oil & Gas and Energy industries. He is Technical Director at Aberdeen Drilling Management. Martin has had extensive involvement with IOM3, serving as President in 2017-18 and recently as the chair of IOM3’s International Affairs Committee. Wednesday March 12 2025 @ 6.45pm for a 7:00pm start. Free to attend hybrid meeting, non-members are welcome. We do this in several ways: Pay for students to become members of IOM3. Pay travel expenses for students to attend EMMS meetings away from their local college or university town or city. Give travel grants for students to attend conferences. This is up to £250, plus one student per year will receive an extra £200 from a benefactor. To qualify for these benefits students should attend EMMS technical meetings (a minimum of two per season, which can be virtual attendance, or one of our student evenings). We also run a local heat of the IOM3 Younger Persons’ Lecture Competition and encourage all younger members in the East Midlands area to compete.
