The Importance of Backfill
Add to calChapel Lecture Theatre, Penryn Campus, University of Exeter TR10 9FE
This lecture will provide an outline of the importance of backfill and how it ties into a modern mining cycle, with case study examples from recent European projects.
Since 1991, Paterson&Cooke's engineers have solved some of the most complex backfill challenges while testing and designing hydraulic, paste and cemented rock fill (CRF) projects all over the world. P&C provide backfill management planning systems and technologies, supporting clients' operations with procedures, guidelines, and performance improvement strategies to maximise system function and safety.
Jack Dukes is a Project Engineer working at Paterson&Cooke UK since February 2022, specialising in underground backfill design. After graduating with a BSc in Engineering & Geotechnical Geology and an MSc in Surveying from CSM, Jack was initially involved in land and asset surveying, working as an expert witness in boundary disputes nationwide, conducting himself in an independent manner and reporting to the UK courts to provide expert evidence.
After moving back to Cornwall in 2021, Jack joined P&C, working around Europe on backfill systems and solutions including Sweden, Bosnia, Serbia, the UK, and Kazakhstan. Jack has been involved in almost all aspects of underground backfill process design and engineering, working from conceptual studies through to detailed engineering and commissioning.
