Mining, on the Dark Side
Add to calExchange Lecture Theatre, Exchange Building
The Royal Geological Society of Cornwall and the CIE are presenting a Christmas guest lecture this coming Wednesday 6th December. A fascinating subject and all are very welcome.
Lecture: Mining, on the Dark Side
Speaker: Stephen Lay ACSM, BSc, CEng, FIMMM.
Stephen Lay graduated from CSM as a mining engineer. He worked in Cornish mining for 13 years, but then progressed his career around the world. It wasn’t until he went “international” that he realised the value of what he had learned in Cornwall. However, nothing prepared him for the “dark side” of the industry. Stephen talks of his international encounters with scams, organised crime, extortion and corruption (and rebels!). He discusses the “must knows” of how corruption works and the extreme pressures brought on him by some unsavoury people. He introduces some of the bad people he has met …. they make Poldark’s Warleggans look like saints!
Date: Wednesday 6th December 2023 at 7pm.
Venue: The Exchange Lecture Theatre, Exchange Building, Penryn, UoE Campus, Cornwall.
Time: 7pm for the lecture and then afterwards for a Christmas Social in the CSM Museum.
Parking: The most convenient car park is Car Park C.
