Lecture by Chris Lingham.
The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company operate a major shipping service running between Penzance and the islands. Their principal ferry
Scillonian 111, purpose built in 1977, may be replaced. In this presentation of the new passenger ship designs, Chris will explain the power and propulsion system. Key to the design is enhanced passenger comfort, environmental considerations and future proofing measures incorporated within the new vessel design.
Chris joined the Steamship company in 2021 after 30 years as an engineer at sea, 20 of which as Chief Engineer, having begun his career as an apprentice fitter at Falmouth Docks. He has been involved in many refits and dry deckings including the rebuilding of a seismic survey vessel. As IOS project manager, he has the responsibility for the design and build of the vessels and leading the new build project team.
