Packaging Design for the Circular Economy

Exploring the context, principles, influences & considerations of designing, specifying & selecting more circular packaging

Packaging for the Circular Economy is fast becoming an essential component of new product development for brands. Increasingly, brands recognise that this is not just a function of Corporate Social Responsibility but that it also makes sound business sense. The responsibility for understanding and implementing sustainable solutions is increasingly delegated to those involved in the management of innovation.

 

This course, involving presentations, small group exercises and case studies, is designed to help educate and navigate you through this complex arena.  Delivered by Emagine Packaging Ltd. (EPL) and Pack IDS, the course provides knowledge together with expert packaging and sustainability insights from practitioners engaged with Circular Economy challenges facing industry today.

The course is targeted at packaging professionals in a wide range of roles and businesses, from marketing to technical, operational and procurement from manufacturing, supply, design and services.

    - Linear to circular journey
    - Models and tools
    - Groundwork and definitions
    - Setting the standard
  • Influences and approaches
    - Governments and industry (UN SDGs & NGOs, EPR and DRS)
    - System level approach to design - influences and do's and don'ts
  • Packaging design strategies
    - Designing packaging for circularity - format materials cycle, principles of circular design, maintaining value
    - Design principles and hierarchy - material and format selection, fitness for purpose, 'Golden Rules'
  • Maximising impact
    - Quantifying impacts - data and the DPP, tools measures and metrics
    - Power of storytelling - painting the picture, keeping it honest
  • Impacts of change
    - Greenwashing
    - Marketing standards and increasing regulation
    - Watchouts for industry and consumers

The course will be dotted with case studies which demonstrate these themes.

How much does the course cost?

The fee for this three session course is £1030+VAT at 20% where applicable.  IOM3 members and subscribers to our Business Partner Programme are entitled to a discount of 10% on the course fee. 

This includes course resources and lunch /refreshments during the in-person day in Grantham.
