Chief Engineer, The MTC

Matt has been Chief Engineer at The MTC since October 2019 having previously been UK R&D manager at one of the world’s largest Titanium manufacturers, TIMET. With over 15 years post-graduate experience in the Metals Industry his main activities at The MTC include technology strategy development, academic engagement and technical governance of MTC research. Matt is a Fellow of the IOM3 and president of the Birmingham Metallurgical Association.

Prof Martin Jackson

Professor of Advanced Metals Processing, The University of Sheffield

Martin Jackson is currently Professor of Advanced Metals Processing at the Univ. Sheffield, United Kingdom. Martin worked at Rolls-Royce as a graduate trainee before studying his PhD at mperial College London. He was awarded the IOM3 Titanium prize in 2003 and a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship in 2005 to develop solid state processes for low cost titanium. Prof. Jackson is Director of the Sheffield Titanium Alloy Research (STAR) research group who work the aerospace, automotive and defence sectors. Martin first presented at the World Titanium conference in Hamburg (Ti-2003).

Dr Anne Velenturf

Technical Programme Manager, TransFIRe, Senior Research Fellow in Circular Economy, University of Leeds

Dr Anne Velenturf is a Senior Research Fellow in Circular Economy at the University of Leeds with a visiting position at Cranfield University. Anne is a circular economy expert working on the interface of research and practice, specialising in the facilitation of transformative change. She is the Technical Programme Manager of TransFIRe – the Transforming Foundation Industries Research and Innovation Hub.

Dr Alessio Franconi

Research Fellow, Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technology, Brunel University

Alessio is a Research Fellow on CircularMetal, one of the five interdisciplinary circular economy centres funded by UKRI through its Strategic Priorities fund. The CircularMetal initiative, coordinated by Brunel University London, seeks to make the UK the first country to fully recycle and reuse its metals. His work focuses on four key objectives:

1. Develop scenarios and roadmaps of how Circular Business Models (CBMs) can enable a full metal circulation in the UK by 2050;
2. Develop CBM archetypes for the metals industry;
3. Develop, test and refine novel CBM design frameworks and tools for the metals industry;
4. Develop novel Circular Supply Chain (CSC) design principles with supporting operational processes to facilitate the development of CBM archetypes.

Alessio works together with Dr Fabrizio Ceschin on the CircularMetal initiative. He is a member of the Design for Sustainability research group of Brunel University London.
