The Student & Early Career Group (IOM3 SEC Group) invite students & early career professionals to produce an insightful short-form video on an interesting materials, minerals, mining, packaging, clay and wood science and technology, entitled 'Did you know?'. Entrants are free to use whatever style they think will communicate their idea best.

The competition is open to IOM3 member and non-member students and early career* professionals.
*The Institute defines 'early career' as meaning someone who is, as of 1 September 2025 (and allows for career breaks, e.g. parental leave):
-within 10 years of the start of their first employment (or self-employment) in a materials, minerals or mining related role, or
-within 6 years of completing their PhD (in a relevant subject), whichever is sooner.
*Note - the 10 years from the start of first employment would not normally include any apprenticeships (or equivalent training scheme).

- The copyright of all images remains with the originator. No copyright is transferred in respect of any videos entered.
- By submitting your video, you agree that IOM3 can publish your entry on the IOM3 SEC Group instagram account.
- Shortlisted entries will be reproduced and may be used in various activities in connection with the Video Competition, which may include the website, social media, Institute publications or events. By entering the Video Competition, entrants agree to their videos being used for publicity purposes.
- Entrants must have permission from any involved parties to submit the videos. The entrant shall be deemed to warrant that they own the entire copyright in the work.
- The entrant undertakes to indemnify the organisers and their partners and sponsors of the Video Competition in respect of any breach of the above warranty.
Music
Should the video features music, entrants are encouraged to use and credit royalty-free music only.
In case videos use music subject to copyright, the entrant must:
- Get the artist's permission before submitting the entry.
- Determine if other permissions are needed.
- Identify the owner.
- Identify the rights needed.
- Contact the owner and negotiate whether payment is required (incurred costs must be paid by the entrant before submitting entry).
- Obtain and submit written agreement.
Entries will be judged by the IOM3 Student & Early Career Committee.

Shortlisted entries will be shared on the IOM3 SEC instagram account. All videos will be shown in front of an international audience at the 2025 YPWLC online final on 27 November where the winners will be announced.
