Best student/apprentice on an IOM3 accredited or certified integrated MEng programme (level 7).

Category 4

In recognition of excellence in IOM3 members* that have recently completed an IOM3 accredited or certified integrated MEng (Level 7) qualification or apprenticeship (in the last 6 months) in a materials, minerals or mining related field.

Successful nominees would be well-rounded individuals that, in addition to academic excellence, have made a positive contribution to department/company life and demonstrate a passion and commitment for their subject and future career.

*Nominees for the 2023 Student & Apprentice Awards should have been a member of IOM3 for at least 12 months by 30 September 2023.

Nominations open: 20 May

Nominations close: 1 October at 23:59 BST

Notification of shortlisted nominees: 4 - 15 October

Online interviews: 21 October - 31 October

Presentation of awards: 5 December

How to submit your nomination

Nominations should be submitted by a tutor or line manager (self nominations will not be considered).

This requires:

  • A statement from the nominee (max. 750 words) explaining why the nominee should be considered for this award. This should include, where appropriate:
    • The programme of study that has been completed within the last 6 months and the nominee's grades/overall result
    • Information around how the candidate has made a positive contribution to department/company life beyond their studies, including mentoring/supporting fellow learners, involvement in outreach activities, involvement in a department/company society, etc. 
  • A statement from the nominee (max. 750 words) explaining why you feel they should be considered for this award. This should include, where appropriate:
    • Reasons for choosing their programme of study and future career ambitions
    • Involvement with IOM3 activities (e.g., Technical Communities, Member Networks, Affiliated Local Societies, IOM3 events) 
    • Involvement in other activities beyond their studies, such as community volunteering, participation in sports teams, etc.

 

Prize

Shortlisted nominees will all receive £50.

The category winner will receive a certificate and £500 cash prize at the 2023 IOM3 Awards Day on 7 December, and will be eligible for the Royal Charter Prize as decided by the judging panel.
