Dr Sam Cruchley
Sam is currently working for Rolls-Royce plc. as a Materials Scientist within the Materials, Corrosion and Chemistry team. He recently spent a year working for the National Nuclear Laboratory Ltd as a metallurgist within the waste management and decommissioning team. He has previously completed a PhD at the University of Birmingham within the Metallurgy and Materials department.
His PhD research in high temperature oxidation of Ni-based superalloys and the role of oxidation in fatigue crack initiation was performed in conjunction with Rolls-Royce plc through the University Technology Partnership (UTP). Throughout his PhD, Sam has an active involvement within the department by acting as a postgraduate mentor as well as demonstrating a number of undergraduate tutorials.
In his spare time he enjoys long distance running, teaching children to swim and has a keen interest in exploring new cultures and countries.
