This resource was designed as a basic introduction to the topic of smart materials and links in to the science and design technology curriculum.

The booklet covers the history, properties and applications of a range of smart materials including shape memory alloys, chromic materials, piezoelectric ceramics, magnetostrictive materials and magneto- and electrorheological fluids.
