Materials Matter at Rolls Royce

8 Nov 2017

Organised by the IOM3 Schools Affiliate Scheme and the Younger Members' Committee

Materials, Minerals and Mining Engineering play a crucial role in our lives as everything around us has been made from materials originating from the ground beneath our feet.  These fast moving fields impact upon the technology we rely on to improve our quality of life and yet how often do you stop and consider the intricacies of the things around you?

This FREE one day conference will give you the chance to meet the Naked Scientists, speak with young people working at the cutting edge of materials, minerals and mining engineering and take part in a hands-on materials challenge.

This event is aimed at groups of year 11 and 12 students, accompanied by a teacher and schools/colleges are invited to bring a team up upto 20 students.

You are welcome to arrive from 0930 ready for the first session from the Naked Scientists at 0945.  This will be followed by a design and build challenge.  During lunch (please bring a packed lunch) you will have the chance to look around the Rolls Royce Heritage Centre and then in the afternoon hear about careers from current Rolls Royce graduates and apprentices and others working in the materials field.  The event will be finished by 1445, allowing you time to get back to school.

For more information or to book a place please download the information and registration form leaflet.

We would like to thank the East Midlands Materials Society for their generous sponsorship for this event.
