IOM3 members recognised in New Year Honours list 2018

The full New Year Honours List for 2018 acknowledges the achievements and service of extraordinary people across the United Kingdom.

The Institute would like to congratulate two members, who have been recognised in this year’s list for their services to materials science, engineering, chemical sciences, technology and wider society.

Professor Mark Miodownik FREng FIMMM, Professor of Materials Science at the University College London, was among those awarded Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to science, engineering and broadcasting. Alongside his research, Professor Miodownik is widely known for his outreach work and series of talks on materials science and metallurgy.

Professor Pratibha Gai FREng FRS FIMMM, Professor and Chair of Electron Microscopy at the University of York, was appointed damehood for her services to chemical sciences and technology. Professor Gai created the first atomic-resolution environmental transmission electron microscope and is an advocate for women with careers in science.
