Materials Failure Investigation Group (MFIG) joins the IOM3 community
The Materials Failure Investigation Group (MFIG) was recently set up to provide a forum for the exchange of information, knowledge and state-of-the-art industrial practice on all aspects of Materials Failure Investigation.
On 13 July 2017, the inaugural meeting of the MFIG took place at IOM3 headquarters in London. The new group, the first of its kind in the UK, will be part of the Materials Science and Technology Division. The group will focus on all technical, educational and professional issues related to materials failure investigation.
The attendees of the first meeting selected its Chairman, Jeff Jones, Kasra Sotoudeh as its Vice Chairman, Charlotte Bath as the Secretary and a Stephen Shapcott to be the Webmaster for the group. The elected committee members will host future events and professional developments activities for the new special interest group.
Chairman, Jeff Jones, said, ‘MFIG hopes to raise profile of the institute within the materials failure investigation sector by working across and within the existing Institute divisions, as well as with other learned bodies and external initiatives such as the Knowledge Transfer Network.’
The group will develop and maintain a micro website to provide an up-to-date information on new and innovative techniques and technologies. It aims to produce a good practice guidance document to members and a template of common case studies of material failures as a reference point.
Institute members and others working in industry sectors are welcomed to visit the site. The group will emphasis areas of investigation for material failure cases and possible solutions that may be available as a resource for future material failure scenarios.
