BMAD publishes biomaterials report

Biomedical Applications Division
,
19 Dec 2013

The IOM3 Biomedical Applications Division has reviewed the current status and future prospects in the field of biomaterials and tissue engineering in the UK. These areas of research and development offer particular challenges to successful advancement in the field.

One of the key issues is establishing an effective route for new innovations to progress from the laboratory to the patient. The correct balance needs to be found between ensuring safety and efficacy in new implants and devices, and promoting the potential for commercialisation to ensure that novel and improved products reach the general population. The report discusses issues that can prevent this process from occurring and ideas for areas of future innovation are presented.

The report can be downloaded on the link below. We welcome your comments on that page prior to a meeting which will be held at 1 Carlton House Terrace, London on 10 February 2014.
