The Biomedical Applications Division has published a report on the status and future prospects in the field of biomaterials and tissue engineering in the UK. The report was published at the beginning of 2014.
One of the key issues is establishing an effective route for new innovations to progress from the laboratory to the patient. The correct balance needs to be found between ensuring safety and efficacy in new implants and devices, and promoting the potential for commercialisation to ensure that novel and improved products reach the general population. The report discusses issues that can prevent this process from occurring and presents ideas for areas of future innovation.
